Nestled in the heart of Bukit Mertajam, Pulau Pinang, Tenang Ria Kopitiam (BM Branch) offers a charming slice of traditional Malaysian kopitiam culture blended with modern culinary twists. This inviting eatery specializes in comforting local flavors with a menu that creatively bridges classic kopitiam staples and contemporary dishes, making it a beloved spot for breakfast, brunch, or casual lunch gatherings.
Step inside or opt for the breezy open-air seating, and you’ll immediately sense the laid-back, homey atmosphere this kopitiam exudes. The décor is minimal yet clean, emphasizing a no-frills approach where the food takes center stage. Customers appreciate the efficient service and short waiting times, ensuring you can enjoy your meal without the long waits common elsewhere.
At the core of Tenang Ria Kopitiam’s appeal is its diverse and thoughtfully curated menu. For noodle lovers, the Maggi Mee 金旦面系列 offers enticing choices like the Tenang Ria Lou Mee 古早味捞面, a stir-fried instant noodle dish that combines the nostalgic taste of hotdog, ham, a perfectly cooked sunny side up egg, and fresh vegetables. The Maggi Ayam Goreng Rempah 姜黄炸鸡捞面 elevates the humble instant noodle with bold spices and tender fried chicken, while the Honey Baked Chicken Maggi 黯然销魂叉鸡捞面 adds a sweet-savory complexity that truly lingers on the palate.
Rice bowl fans will find delight in choices such as the Tempura Fish Fillet Rice Bowl 炸鱼排烧滑蛋盖饭, which artfully balances crispy fish fillets with silky eggs and fresh salad, or the indulgent Unadon 鳗丼, featuring baked unagi that melts in your mouth paired with fragrant white rice. The Japanese-inspired crispy chicken katsu rice bowl is another highlight that promises crunchy textures and rich flavors in every bite.
No kopitiam experience is complete without sampling the nasi dishes, and Tenang Ria Kopitiam does not disappoint. Their Nasi Lemak Telur (Santan) 煎蛋椰浆饭 offers pandan rice served alongside sambal, crunchy anchovies, toasted peanuts, fried egg, and cucumber—a comforting and satisfying classic breakfast. Those seeking something more aromatic and flavourful can opt for the pandan-infused rice paired with spicy shrimp sambal or rendang chicken, both of which promise layers of fragrant and rich Malaysian taste.
Patrons have shared authentic feedback that shines a light on Tenang Ria Kopitiam’s strengths and room for growth. The kopi—though aromatic and with a generally agreeable taste—has been noted as slightly thin by some, but this does not overshadow the charm of their coffee offerings. The roti and toast selections come highly recommended, especially the crispy butter toast served with three dipping sauces, a simple dish that elevates comfort food to an art form. The sambal and rendang chicken have a sweeter, milder profile that suits those who prefer less heat but could be amped up for spice seekers.
Practicality is also a plus here, with convenient online payment options that save you from queuing at the counter, and ample seating that rarely feels crowded even during lunchtime. Parking might be slightly limited during peak hours, but nearby roadside housing areas provide convenient alternatives.
Overall, Tenang Ria Kopitiam captures the essence of a classic Malaysian kopitiam experience with a clean, cosy environment, delectable dishes that marry traditional and modern tastes, and service that considers the customer's comfort. Whether you’re a local looking for your daily kopi fix or a visitor craving authentic yet approachable Malaysian flavors, this kopitiam stands as a worthwhile stop in Bukit Mertajam’s vibrant food scene.

Overall it deserve 3.5. Medium price range and portion is generous. The kopi is a bit thin, the aroma and texture is far from good. Mushroom soup can be thicker and creamy a bit. Roti and toast is recommended. The place is clean and not too crowded. Waiting time is short.

Came for lunch and ample seating available. Took the egg nasi lemak and unagi set. Both tasted quite good. The nasi lemak fried egg had the yolk still runny, and the sambal tasted very good. Both dishes are recommended. The menu had a variety of bread toast egg combos too. Service was fast, and the environment was clean and cosy. Prices are mid range. Definitely more expensive than a regular kopitiam. Parking was pretty easy around here.

Pretty good kopitiam for a simple breakfast or brunch around St Anne area. Open air seating with minimal decors, place gives out a homey vibe. Got their nasi lemak and a few toasts. Taste wise everything is nice but nothing too standout. Will recommend if you're nearby and craving some kopitiam food.

This is very chill place to be for breakfast. The food here is nice and reasonable price . They have many choices of food . The Ikan bilis nasi lemak is super nice and not spicy . This is a corner lot cafe without any air conditioner . Parking is ok but not many available if you are going during peak hours . But you still can park at the roadside housing area . The toilet is very clean . Overall rating for this place is 8/10

Variety choice of food, the sambal and rendang chicken are a bit sweet, not spicy to me, if can be more spicy is better. The coffee has aromatic character and agreeable taste.

A decent breakfast spot located within BM township. The price is affordable n the portion is just right. But the taste could use some improvement, especially the sambal. Here's what we tried: Nasi Pandan Ayam Goreng Rempah, Maggi Ayam Goreng Rempah, Crispy Butter Toast with 3 Dipping Sauce, Kopi 3Mix Special. I'd recommend the crispy butter toast with 3 dipping sauce, n kopi 3mix special. Best to eat the crispy toast while it's still warm. The coffee is thick n can taste the rich chocolatey Milo. Ordering via QR n pays at the counter afterwards.
